Antique Boulle inlaid cabinet by cabinetmaker Hyppolite-Edmè Pretot (1812-1855)

Artist: Hyppolite-Edmè Pretot BOULLE INLAID CABINET, (inlaid with tortoiseshell and chiseled brass, rich in gilded bronzes with jewel-like craftsmanship) by the French cabinetmaker HYPPOLITE-EDMÈ PRETOT (1812-1855). STAMPED ON THE WOODEN TOP "PRETOT" AND NUMBERED. ALL THE GILDED BRONZES ARE ALSO INITIALED "H. P. HYPPOLITE PRETOT". THE GREAT PECULIARITY OF THIS PIECE OF FURNITURE, WHICH DISTINGUISHES IT, IS ITS HEIGHT: "a full 122 cm", INDICATING THAT THE FURNITURE WAS COMMISSIONED FOR SOME PALACE OR ROYAL VILLA IN FRANCE. IDEAL FOR GIVING YOUR HOME A TOUCH OF EXTREME ELEGANCE AND NOBILITY... SO THAT IT WILL CERTAINLY NOT GO UNNOTICED. The FURNITURE HAS BEEN PERFECTLY RESTORED ACCORDING TO ART "Professional Restoration " PRETOT Hippolyte-Edme (1812-1855), born in Paris; married Cyrille-Joséphine Leclercq. He subsequently practiced at 16, rue del'Abbaye in 1836, 11bis, rue Saint-Germain des Près in 1841, and from 1846 at 3 and 5, rue du Harlay. Shortly after his death, Frédéric Roux acquired his company, which was managed in the meantime by the cabinetmaker Bassié. He participated in the exhibition in 1849 and the London Exhibition in 1852, where he received a second-class medal for his inlaid furniture.
