Pair of paintings "Landscape with figures"
Author : attribuibili a Paolo Anesi (Roma 1697-1773)
Period: 18th century
Pair of oil paintings on canvas, depicting: "Landscape with figures". The paintings are in good condition and are attributable to Paolo Anesi, a Roman painter of the 18th century (Rome 1697-1773). Paolo Anesi was probably born in Rome, though some claim he was born in Florence where he had a workshop in his early years. Many of his landscapes were bought by foreigners, mostly English, who loved this style, from Canaletto to Zuccarelli. His "Capricci" with ruins of the Forum anticipate Marco Ricci and recall similar subjects by Giovanni Paolo Pannini. In 1757, he became a member of the Congregation of Virtuosi at the Pantheon. His landscape frescoes at Villa Albani in 1761 are famous. cm. 72 x 58 (canvas cm. 64 x 48) The polychrome lacquered wooden frames are contemporary to the paintings.
