ORIGINS: The origins of this fantastic armchair date back to the late 1800s in Bilibid Prison, in the Philippines, where inmates wove it for tourists, mainly Americans. The first image we have is dated 1914, where a convict woman is portrayed sitting with her son in her arms. American Vogue of 1916 also recommended its purchase. It was taken up and reworked in the 1950s by Bonacina (Margherita armchair), but popularity came in the 1960s thanks to countless appearances on photo shoots and on the covers of music albums and for an iconic photo with Huey Newton, the leader of the Black Panther. Also in the 1970s, thanks to the appearance in the cult film Emmanuelle, it arrived to the general public.
This iconic armchair is and remains a symbol of design that has reached today without losing its original charm, thanks to its versatility that allows it to be placed in different furnishings while always maintaining its harmony.
