Swiss pine wood sculpture, with winged cherubs holding a palette-shaped mirror and a winged lion at the top. The sculpture has a P on the bottom (see photo 7), leading to the assumption that it is a Panciera. Sculptor: Valentino Panciera known as "Besarel" (Astragal 1829 – Venice 1902) The Besarel family had been dedicated to wood sculpture for generations: the great-grandfather Valentino (1747-1811), a student of Giampaolo Gamba "Zampòl" and an ideal disciple of the master Andrea Brustolon, the grandfather Giovanni (1778-1842) and also the father Giovanni Battista (1801-1873) were carvers. The latter had achieved a certain local fame, leaving works in various churches of the Zoldano area. Thanks to the architect Giuseppe Segusini, Valentino was able to attend the Academy of Venice from 1853 to 1855, although he did not manage to complete his studies. His first independent works, commissioned by Segusini, were the saints Peter and Paul for the main altar of the parish church of Tiser and the Four Evangelists for the Cathedral of Belluno (1855-1856). The dense presence of Besarel's sculptures in the churches and palaces of the area has suggested the organization of guided tours through the places that house his works. cm.90h x 60 our price 1800.00 euro
