SCI was founded in Laveno in 1856 by Severino Revelli and some former employees of the "Richard" factory in Milan, including Carnelli and Caspani. The "S.C.I." (Società Ceramica Italiana) began its activity as a producer of wall tiles and fine earthenware tableware in English imitation.
In 1883 it took the form of a public limited company and achieved its first successes at numerous national exhibitions.
In 1895 the company was headed by Cavalier Luciano Scotti and thanks to his intuition and entrepreneurial skills the factory, in a few years, achieved unthinkable development.
In those years, some Art Nouveau pieces designed by Giorgio Spertini, author of elegant "whiplash" style creations, worthy of note, came out of the Laveno factory.
In 1906 the "S.C.I." presented numerous works at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Milan.
Other collaborators from the beginning of the century were Silvio and Piero De Ambrosis, Felice Palucco, Giancarlo Jacopini and the brothers Marco and Luigi Raggiori.
But it was in 1923 that, under the direction of Guido Andlovitz, the manufactory reached the height of its fame and in 1925 it obtained a great affirmation at the II Biennale di Monza.
